  • 999 in cases of emergency only

NHS County Durham and Darlington is the first of three Pathfinder project sites in the country to launch access to urgent care, through a ‘free to call’ number (111), for patients across CountyDurham and Darlington.

Using 111 can help free up 999 and local A&E departments to focus on emergency cases.  It can also help patients get the support they need quickly and conveniently.

When calling 111 you will be given advice as to whether you need to see a GP or attend the local Urgent Care Centre.  In the event you are directed to an Urgent Care Centre you will be given an appointment.

NHS 111 will also work alongside the 999 emergency service and in the event that an emergency response is needed, an ambulance will be dispatched without you needing to repeat any information.
